AP vs. standard courses

I've been trying to find the differences between the AP and standard versions of U.S. History and Environmental Science, but so far everywhere I look, the content is identical. Is there a difference? Can anyone direct me to an example that will give me an idea of the distinction between the two?

These courses are derived from the same starting material. The lessons are identical. They differ in terms of assignments and assessment. First, some assignment types that relate specifically to the AP test have been removed (check out chapter 3/assignments in each course):

• Free Response Questions
• Document-based Questions

Some other assignments have also been removed or modified to reflect a somewhat less rigorous course (non-AP). Changes to the assessments have been made as well (note some assessments are only available to NROC Members - see http://www.montereyinstitute.org/nroc/).
